About
Hacienda Environmental Science Magnet, a California Distinguished School, is dedicated to teaching students to explore the natural world around them. We have a unique one-acre outdoor classroom site featuring California native plants and pond communities. All students study science with a resource teacher as well as their classroom teachers. The school emphasizes academic achievement in the classroom through specialized instruction in science, including scheduled indoor and outdoor laboratory lessons and a computer-training center. An outstanding balanced music program also enhances the extended day.
We are working to achieve our goal of having all students reading at grade level by the end of the third grade. We are committed to closing the achievement gap between all subgroups by implementing data-driven instruction, and best-practice professional development for staff. We celebrate the diversity of our community knowing that diversity contributes to the rich culture and welcoming climate of our school. Our staff works together in a partnership with the parents and guardians of our children to make learning a reality for all our students. Opportunities for parents to participate in their child(ren)‘s education abound and we encourage you to learn about parent participation opportunities through school committees and school connected organizations.
Hacienda has a strong literacy and math program supported with Blended Learning Programs such as Lexia, DreamBox and Achieve3000. Our gifted students are integrated into our regular program and are provided additional enrichment activities. The school serves the special needs of our students by providing Resource Specialist Program teachers (RSP), Speech Language Pathologists (SLP), an Occupational Therapist (OT), a school Counselor, and trained academic intervention staff.
